Achieve brighter teeth with Enlighten teeth whitening in Stevenage

As we age, our teeth tend to become yellow and discoloured. Though this is a natural process, yellow teeth can also be caused by caffeine, smoking as well as highly-pigmented foods and drinks. Stained and discoloured teeth are also genetic and affect people with thin tooth enamel, or they may be the result of certain medications.

Whatever the cause behind your yellow teeth, professional teeth whitening can lighten and brighten your teeth to produce a healthier and attractive smile. At Smilecraft in Stevenage, we use the Enlighten teeth whitening system, an innovative treatment that helps whiten your teeth up to 16 shades easily and safely.

What is Enlighten?

Enlighten is a unique teeth whitening system that combines power whitening with home whitening. Initially, your dentist will examine your teeth thoroughly and determine whether you are a good candidate for the treatment. Generally, most people can benefit from the treatment, but patients with sensitive teeth may need to go through a desensitizing treatment first. Once you are cleared, your dentist will take impressions of your teeth that will be sent to a lab for creating your custom trays. These trays will be made specifically for your mouth, therefore, they should fit snugly over your teeth and gums. Your dentist will then show you how to wear them at home.

After two weeks, you will return to the dentist for a one-hour treatment that will boost the new colour of your teeth and ensure that the whitening is seamless. This system guarantees that your teeth will reach their optimum whiteness.

Why opt for Enlighten?

Just like all whitening systems provided by our practice, the Enlighten teeth whitening system is highly reliable and promises uniform results across your smile. It is very convenient to use and does not require any dietary or lifestyle changes. If you are too busy to wear the whitening trays throughout the day, you can always wear them at night. More importantly, Enlighten promises results in as little as two weeks with minimal pain or sensitivity. At the end of the treatment, we will provide you with a maintenance kit that will help you retain the brightness of your teeth for longer.

Let get things straight

At Smilecraft in Stevenage, we believe that oral wellbeing is a mental thing as well as a physical one. Having a mouth and teeth that are free from infection and cavities provides important physical wellbeing. But the mental and emotional wellbeing that comes from having a smile to behold should not be underestimated. This second aspect of dentistry falls into an area of special skill known as orthodontics. In Stevenage, this is an area of dentistry we focus on.

Orthodontics in Stevenage Put simply, orthodontics is the term for the dental science of straightening the teeth and making sure that the upper and lower teeth bite together well.

Benefits abound

In Stevenage, orthodontics at Smilecraft have surprisingly great knock-on effects. When you get your misaligned teeth straightened out, you have fewer nooks and crannies for plaque to build up in, and your teeth become far easier to keep clean with brushing and flossing. Less plaque means less risk of gum disease and tooth decay. It is also possible to get rid of a great deal of unnecessary pain by having one’s bite improved. This is because when the teeth do not bite together properly, the pressure of chewing is unevenly distributed, and can lead to pain in the jaw muscle and joint, and even headaches and neck ache.

Orthodontics in Stevenage offers what we think is one of the best systems for realigning the teeth.

Just six months?

Six Month Smiles is a fast and discreet teeth straightening system that blends in with your teeth rather than dominating them. It uses the same tried and trusted mechanics of traditional orthodontics, but with much gentler forces. This means that the hardware is can be smaller. Six Month Smiles features clear ceramic brackets and tooth-coloured wires. The wires are strung between the brackets and tightened to move the teeth with a gentle and sustained pulling force. It is this, along with the angle of the brackets, that determines how the teeth move. The average treatment time is only 6 months, although it can be as little as 4 months and as much as 9 months.

Orthodontics in Stevenage are available for both children and adults. If you would like to find out how we can help you, please give us a call.

Half a year to a full power smile

The trouble with wonky teeth is that they are very hard to hide. Really, the only way to keep your misalignments to yourself would be to become a hermit or take a vow of silence. But here we are in the 21^st century where neither of these options would be great lifestyle choice and we all have to interact with our fellow human beings by speaking and smiling. We can’t even hide behind the phone now that we have video calling. That’s why at Smilecraft in Stevenage, braces for adults are becoming an increasingly popular choice.

Whether you missed out on braces as an adolescent because your teeth weren’t wonky enough to meet the NHS criteria, or you did have braces and your teeth have since wandered off course, at Smilecraft we think we can help. And quickly too.

Six months to your new smile

Our preferred system of braces in Stevenage is called Six Month Smiles. A great name with a great promise of getting your smile straightened out in an average time of only 6 months – although it can take as little as 4 and as long as 9 months. The reason this system is so quick is that it is aimed at solving problems with misalignments of the front 6 ‘social’ teeth, the ones that are most on view when we talk and smile. Six Month Smiles is designed specifically to solve twists and gaps, crowding and protrusions rather than the more serious issues to do with your jaws not meeting together properly.

In Stevenage, braces from a few decades ago were all designed to deal with these more serious problems, so they needed strong forces and ‘heavy metal’ to do it.

Six Month Smiles uses much smaller brackets that are made of clear ceramic rather than metal, and the wires that are strung between them are tooth-coloured. This results in braces that blend in with your teeth rather than dominating them. They also use much gentler forces to move the teeth, and so they are far more comfortable to wear.

Once your treatment is over, you can top it off with a teeth whitening treatment to get the absolute most out of your lovely new smile.

Straighten your teeth with adult orthodontics in Stevenage

Whether you are an adult whose teeth have shifted over the years or you have become more conscious of the way they have always looked, metal braces are not your only option. Fortunately, recent orthodontic advancements allow patients of any age to correct crooked, gapped and misaligned teeth, without having to wear braces.

At Smilecraft in Stevenage, orthodontics are all about the health, appearance and overall well-being of our patients. We understand that metal braces may not be to everyone’s liking, therefore, we offer Six Month Smiles, a discreet dental treatment with fast and reliable results.

What is Six Month Smiles?

Six Month Smiles is an innovative orthodontic treatment that reduces the time it takes to straighten your teeth almost by half, or even more. The braces themselves are clear and less noticeable, and the technology in Six Month Smiles uses less pressure to move the teeth into their right position, making the treatment more comfortable.

Unlike metal braces, Six Month Smiles wires are made of nickel-titanium. The clear brackets are applied only to the teeth which are visible when you smile, not your entire bite. As such, treatment time is considerably shorter compared to traditional orthodontics. Less pressure on your teeth also means you don’t have to worry about risks that come with metal braces, such as root damage.

What to expect

As with traditional orthodontics, treatment with Six Month Smiles braces begins with a consultation appointment with one of our dentists. After examining your teeth and analysing your bite, they will discuss your dental goals and assess your individual needs. Six Month Smiles is only suitable for patients with moderately crooked teeth, who do not wish to modify their bite.

Once the treatment has been determined to be the best for you, your dentist will make an impression of your teeth and send them over to the Six Month Smiles laboratory. There, the impressions of your teeth will be used to determine where the clear brackets and tooth-colored wires will go. Once ready, your dentist will fix the braces on your front teeth and see you after five weeks for your first adjustments.

Orthodontics in Stevenage Orthodontics is dentistry’s term for the area of work focussing on improving the look of misaligned teeth, be they crooked, gappy, crowded or tilted in or out.

The most common orthodontic treatment for correcting the alignment of the teeth is the fixed bracket and wire braces. They have been around for several decades and these days, unless you have serious problems to correct, do not need to be the traditional metal ‘train tracks’ braces, which have a reputation for being uncomfortable and a bit too obvious.

This reputation has put many off having braces, especially adults, who are working and do not wish to draw attention to what their dentists are doing for them.

That’s why at Smilecraft, we use Six Months Smiles braces. These are great for adults who have no major issues with their bite, and only need to have their teeth straightened.

How does it work?

In Stevenage, orthodontics from Six Month Smiles work on the same mechanical principles as metal braces. However the brackets are much smaller and made of clear ceramic, and the wire strung between them is tooth-coloured. This way the braces blend into your teeth rather than dominate them. Also, because the aim of the treatment is simply to straighten the teeth, the braces use gentler forces, which is why they are much finer looking.

Six Month Smiles are so-called because that’s how long they take, on average, to straighten your teeth, which means fewer appointments. This also means your treatment can be cheaper than other teeth straightening methods.

Why not come in and talk to us about Six Month Smiles? You could have a brand new smile for Christmas if you start your treatment now.

Gum disease shouldn’t be an issue if you clean your teeth regularly at the dentist. However, be aware of red and swollen gums that bleed since they may be indicative of mild gum disease, which is entirely reversible.
